Some of the apparel is on sale.
Lake treatment – Overall it looks good. Mary asked for feedback. We have a new weed, Sago pondweed. Not invasive. Nature abhors a vacuum. Where we’ve suppressed milfoil and fanwort, other stuff can pop up.
What about First Lake? It’s become very shallow, but the weeds there are not invasive. Can we hydrorake it? DEC probably wouldn’t allow it. It really should be cleaned out, but Chromium 6 concentrates in the muck and will complicate any dredging or hydroraking. Unless we get a really good grant, First Lake is going to silt in and there’s not much we can do about it. There is a similar problem near the culvert. Hopefully that will be resolved when the culvert is replaced.
Nick, Lynne and Mary met with Town Board to present our legal paperwork for the Lake District. The paperwork was accepted and delivered to the Town Attorney for his review. We’ve had a few subsequent conversations with the attorney, and we need a $2500 retainer in escrow. Kelly Merrill made a motion to remit $2500 escrow to the attorney. Jay Bergin seconded. Passed.
We’ll proceed with the process to get the Lake District passed. A public hearing could possibly happen in August. The Lake District could be passed by the Town by the end of the year, but even with that timeline, it still won’t be reflected on tax bills until January of 2025.
Grant Sackel is selling a scooter with $1000 of the proceeds for KLCA.
Jay and Jill donated $759 from the craft fair, kayak raffle. Their fundraising efforts are very much appreciated.
Nominations – President Mary Augustus thanked board members, officers and volunteers for their efforts throughout the years. The officers and board members matter. We have developed relationships with the Town and other organizations and it’s important to to keep that going.
Nominees:
- Lynne Belokopitsky for President, nominated by Gordon Hyatt. Nick Belokopitsky seconded.
- Jay Bergin for President, nominated by Jill Bergin. Bob Thompson seconded it.
- Mike King nominated for Vice President by Mark Augustus. Gary Knutti seconded it. Mike is running unopposed.

- Kelly Merrill nominated for Treasurer by Nick Belokopitsky, seconded by Mark Augustus.
- Grant Sackel for Treasurer nominated by Jay Bergin. Bob Thompson seconds.

Elections are in August. Mary will provide absentee ballots to people who need it. Let her know if you want one and where to send it. Mary will need bios from those who are running.
Fishing Derby – Jill and Denise are coordinating this event, but no details yet.
Tad Krawiec reported that there was a “Posted” sign on the beaver dam on Green Pond. Tad called the Oswego DEC, who said that the owner/lessee can’t post the beaver dam and we can ignore it. Mary will contact Garrett at Douglaston Manor to have them remind the users that the public can access the lake. Jay Bergin knows the guy who runs the hunting club that leases the land and will reach out to him, as well.
Mike King – Lake treatment seemed very effective. Did they do something different? A-Tip seemed to slow down this year and make multiple passes. We also had perfect weather this year.
Kelly Merrill made a motion to close the meeting, seconded by Brenda Hyatt.
Motion to accept these minutes made by Nancy Lantry on August 12, 2023. Seconded by Ed Googins.
