President Mary Augustus opened the meeting at 10:08 AM at the Kasoag Lake Tavern.
Minutes from May meeting summarized by Secretary Lynne Belokopitsky. Motion to accept by Denise Hartman. Seconded by Cindy Hyatt.
Treasurer’s report presented by Treasurer Linda Barzee. $18,385 in bank last month. $24,403 this month. Motion to accept by Kelly Merrill. Seconded by Jack Lantry.
Per Mary we received a good amount of membership dues so far this year. Also $500 from Bobbi’s Cans and Bottles. Jay and Jill made several generous donations. The Quilt Raffle generated some money. Teresa Stevens donated $370 from her afghan raffle and etched glasses. We’ve received a number of other donations, as well. This all added up to over $6,000 in May and June
The lake treatment will be on Monday, June 19th, weather permitting. A-Tip will treat both Kasoag Lake and Green Pond on the same day. He’ll do Kasoag Lake first and then Green Pond. Since he’s done Kasoag before, he knows how long it will take to get it done, but since this is the first treatment for Green Pond, he’s not sure if he’ll run into issues. He can’t get his boat over the beaver dam, so Douglaston Manor built a boat ramp for A-Tip’s boat.
Notifications at lake access points will be posted in the next few days. Bob Thompson will monitor the treatment by boat. We need to make sure the Stevens’ cove is treated this year. It’s been missed the past two years and we want to make sure it gets treated this year. The treatment will be done on the whole perimeter of the lake.
Lake District – The support by lake property owners has been excellent. We’re supposed to be on the agenda on Wednesday, June 14th for the Williamstown Town Board. The packet has been prepared and will be presented to the Board at that time. The next step is a legal notice in the Queen City News and public hearing.
Mary described the document that will be submitted. It includes a map and legal description of the properties in the proposed Lake District. This likely won’t be on the tax bills until January 2025.
Even though we have $24,000 in the bank now, when we pay for this year’s treatment we’ll be down to $10,000 in the bank. It’ll be a challenge to have the money for next year’s treatment.
Kelly Merrell asked – Should we ask people to pre-pay next year’s dues? That would help. The next president will have to decide whether or not to ask for early dues.
There will be no golf tournament this year. We waited too long to book it. Does anyone have ideas for additional fundraising?
Vince volunteered to pay the NYSFOLA dues. Thank you, Vince.
The work party for tomorrow is cancelled. Who is putting the green floats out to mark the stumps? We like them. It was determined that marking the stumps and dealing with the rebar that was previously used as markers is not an Association function. If neighbors want to do it on their lakefronts, it’s a private matter.
-Duck race ducks are for sale
-Community garage sale is on June 24th and will be advertised in Queen City News. There will also be signs
-Jill is organizing a sale/craft show at the Tavern on the same day.
-Fishing Derby needs a committee to be headed by Denise Hartmann. Date TBD
(Probably August 20).
-July meeting is also the annual picnic/auction. Please bring a basket for the auction and a dish to pass
The culvert pipe between Shinglemill and Kasoag is deteriorating. It’s a big job to replace it and the people who live on the other side won’t have access or emergency services while the work is being done. Williamstown is trying to get the county to help to reduce the amount of time that the access is denied.
Elaina Hadjuk announced that their camp is for, including 1952 orange pontoon boat.
Apparel – We made $600 last month on apparel sales. We’re waiting for some additional orders, in progress and hopefully ready soon.
We have 90 members to date this year.
Nominations are in July. Elections in August. New Officers/Board take over in September. All officers are up for election, President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary.
Should we keep the membership dues at $100 or reduce to $20 if Lake District goes through. Mary suggested to table it until the Lake District is finalized. What would we spend the money on? Lake Study, stocking. Some people signed the petition because of the reduction in dues. It’s ultimately up to the membership to decide.
50/50 won by Grant Sackel and generously donated back to Association
Quilt raffle – The raffle ticket was drawn for the pristine vintage quilt made in 70’s and never used. Won by Kelly Merrill.
Meeting ended at 11:00.
Motion to accept these minutes made by Penny Montgomery on July 8, 2023. Seconded by Jay Bergin.
