- DEC was very helpful in navigating the complicated processs
- 2025 Herbicide Treatment
- Wetlands permitting process is still in flux; in order to ensure treatment this year,
we had to renew an old/expired permit, which required using a map that coverd 5
fewer acres (23 acres instead of 28 acres)- Alternative was to seek new permit with current map, which could take up
to a year and would jeopardize our ability to get a treatment for the 2025
season
- Alternative was to seek new permit with current map, which could take up
- 5 fewer acres with this treatment means reduction in total treatment cost
- Next year we will have to apply for a wetlands permit; this process will start as
soon as 2025 treatment is done so as not to interfere with this year’s treatment - Using Flumigard this season
- June 23-28; yellow signs to be posted at access points with exact date; email will
be sent out

- Lake Management Plan
- Membership feedback
- Gordon – Mixed feelings; not a clear direction; confirmed if plan is
finalized or not, answer is yes - Michele – Feels this looks like a template; some things are just not
realistic for our lake (size & financial resources); chemical treatment looks
best; hand-pulling – fanwort & Milfoil will simply breakup and replant itself
elswhere, water chestnuts work for hand-pulling. iMap invasives;
suggested “Weed box” at launches – available on DEC website; wetlands
rules have changed this year and there’s a lot of confusion and they’re
working through it; affirmed that the route taken for this year’s treatment
was the best path to ensure we could receive a treatment
- Gordon – Mixed feelings; not a clear direction; confirmed if plan is
- Lynne Summary
- 109 survey stations – dropped rake, pulled samples
- 35 – #1 plant found Eurasian Millfoil (32%)
- 5 – Curly leaf Pond
- Low risk, low priority
- 6 – Fanwort
- Recommendation
- Year 1: Summer 2026 – ProcellaCOR
- Treatment to manage Eurasian Water Milfoil
- Systemic herbicide (vs Flumigard: Contact herbicide that damages
what it touches) – kills targeted Milfoil down to the root - Typically remains effective for 2-3 years
- Higher up-front cost; seeking estimates from applicators
- Completely untraceable in water column and no drinking
restrictions - We are approved for 200 ppb for Flumigard, this would only
require less than 10 ppb - Questions
- Is this what we’d target on the wetlands permit?
- Lynne to talk to DEC to see if we can apply for a
series of methods

- Winter 2026-2027 – Lake drawdown
- Approx 3 feet
- Lake association decision
- Need to evaluate pros & cons
- Likely to begin drawdown in Oct or Nov 2026, refill in March 2027
- Must remove at least 3 feet; anything less than 3 feet is less
effective - Any muck or other plants that are exposed to the freezing
temperatures are killed down to the roots - Reduces the muck
- When lake refills in spring, other lakes have found that
significantly less herbicide was required in following years
because so many of the invasive plants were killed off - MUST be done in the winter as freezing temps are a major part of
the effort - Form a committee to do research, determine pros/cons, present
findings to the association- Seeking volunteers
- Not as simple as removing a board from the dam; gradual removal
of water so as not to overwhelm downstream areas - County may be willing to help as the dam is county property
- Consider impacts on water table, would need to consult
geologist/aquifer expert (Oswego Co Soil & Water)
- Summer 2027 – Targeted herbicide for Fanwort
- Fall 2027 (or throughout entire process)
- Post-treatment survey of Milfoil and Fanwort to examine impacts
- Year 1: Summer 2026 – ProcellaCOR
- Rumors of additional grant opportunities; we will be seeking those out
- No increase in LD fees
- Targeted approach is key
- DEC wants to see multi-facted, adaptive management plan for permits
- Better to include more on permits and grant requests
- The fact that we used grant money for the study should help get us more
grant money
- Questions
- Would our assessment build-up over the years after Procella-COR?
- Yes, but there will be some small expenses in years 2 & 3 for efforts
made in those years
- Yes, but there will be some small expenses in years 2 & 3 for efforts
- Are there any other chemicals that we could put into the lake to help with plant
removal?- Muck pellets identified – these help with the muck and make it easier to
hand-pull- If hand-pulling, ensure that the entirety of the plant(s) is collected
so that it doesn’t re-root
